Happy Post-Thanksgiving, everyone! Matt and I stayed at home during the Thanksgiving holiday. It did not work out for us to get together with family. We spent the day relaxing, watching some football (go go go to my Fantasy Football team!!!), and spending time together. We did a non-traditional turkey day. We put together a "Taco Turkey Day"... which consisted of haystacks. For dessert I made a chocolate devil's food cake with dark chocolate fudge icing.... YUM!
We did not take a lot of pictures over the Thanksgiving holiday, but I did capture one good one of Melanie. She is now a few days short of 15 months old and weighs in around 23 or 24 pounds. Her feet are half the size of mine already! I think it is safe to say she will outgrow her mama... but that should not be too hard to do since I am only 5' tall.
Melanie continues to experience new and exciting things in her little toddler world. Her most recent accomplishment is the experience of climbing. She has already mastered the activities of sitting on things within her own height.
The newest thing is getting up to the big sofa by climbing on a box. This was Matt's idea and it is amazing to watch! He took note of how much she was climbing onto a printer box by his desk. He took it to the next step by placing it in front of our main family room sofa. Sure enough.... here comes little Melanie Rose scampering over the box. She gets up on the box and then looks around as if to say, "Hey! There is another level I can reach!". She promptly gets up on the couch; laughing and giggling to her little heart's content.
The box is now permanently placed in front of the couch. We let her experience a few tumbles so she understands the boundaries of getting up and down. We make sure she doesn't go over the arm of the sofa... and encourage her to go down backwards. She is becoming a master. The look of accomplishment and enjoyment on her little face is... how does MasterCard say it?... "PRICELESS".
This morning I woke up to the beautiful sight of falling snow! I love snow! Melanie was not awake yet, Matt was still sleeping, and the dogs were hoping to get out and start creating their own version of snow angels. I sneaked out on our back deck and took a couple pictures of the soft, thick, collecting snow. It was still pretty dark out so hopefully you can see the splendor of it all. I will have to get the bird feeders brushed off after the snow stops falling.
We are double excited because we'll be able to spend time with Nathaniel. We miss him and look forward to some more days of brother-sister time. We show Melanie Nathaniel's picture on the refrigerator. She always smiles. :)
Until the next posting, enjoy snowy days and lazy afternoons.
